Mobile Voip use Increases While Profits Fall

By Saul Saresi

Latest market research carried out by Juniper research has discovered that, as bizarre as it may seem, profits for mobile Voip use have fallen drastically, even though use has increased dramatically.

And just to give you some figures to back up the facts, here they are. With regard to mobile Voip minutes, in 2010 the total minutes stood at 15 Billion minutes, but that figure is expected to skyrocket to over 460 Billion minutes by 2015 - just three years from now - of which the US are expected to account for over 135 Billion of those minutes.

And of these extra minutes, it is predicted that the US alone will account for over 135 Billion of said minutes. But although this seems on the face of things that all is well in the mobile Voip world, these extra minutes have not resulted in extra profits for the service providers for a number of reasons.

The main reason being that a lot of the Mobile Voip usage has been due to applications which offer free Voip services and connection time as an alternative to paying for a carrier mobile Voip service. Because of the rise in applications of this nature, it means that consumers now have a range of options when it comes to voice and message service.

All of which means that, despite the extra coverage and increase airtime generated by mobile Voip, it is actually having a detrimental effect on - a proving a definite thorn in the side of - mobile voice revenue.

To add further credence to this train of thought, it is now predicted that mobile Voip revenue for 2012 will reach just $2.5 billion globally. Still a significant of money, but when compared with previous forecasts made by researchers at Analysis - where it was estimated that mobile Voip services would generate revenues of $18.6 billion in the USA & $7.3 billion in Western Europe - the disparity is clear to see.

So as you can see, even the best industry experts have been caught off-guard by such a degree that it is embarrassing. But, such grossly inaccurate predictions are a mark of how hugely the market has under-achieved rather than excessive human error-ship. It does, however, give some inclination of just how much profit the mobile voice service providers have missed out on.

But regardless of all that, one things looks clear - the future seems bright for the consumer. So with many more applications set to be released offering opportunities to take advantage of free mobile Voip time, take advantage as much as possible and take back some of the power - because its hi-time we did.
