Is Voip Set to Become the Fastest Growing US Industry?

By Saul Saresi

Its been making inroads into all manner of markets fro years, and threatening to take off in a big way, but now, it seems, all of the potential is finally being realised and Voip is set to become the biggest US industry in just a few years time.

Trailing in Voip's wake in the list of the ten most dynamic industries are: Wind Power, E-commerce, Environmental Consulting, Biotechnology, Video Games, Solar Power, Third Party Administrators & Insurance Claim Adjusters, Correctional Facilities & Internet Publishing.

And the stats are even easier to understand when you compare the growth rates for each sector going back over the past ten years. In this time the Voip sector has seen growth of just under 200%, compared to its nearest competitor, Internet Publishing, which has seen growth of just 25%.

So if you are wondering what has caused this surge in growth, the answer is simple; Cable. Although not the most obvious utilisation of Voip technology ahead of services such as Skype, Cable commands the marketplace, leaving Skype trailing with just 3% of the US market.

And in case you were wondering how Voip technology is utilised by Cable, there are three systems which are used, those being Virtual systems, peer-to-peer systems and standard cable systems. this means that there is always a no hassle option to best suit the customers' situation.

However, it may come as somewhat of a surprise to discover that the corporate market accounts for just 20% of the industry - a gap in the market maybe - offering huge potential for partnerships such as the Microsoft-Skype alliance affording corporate clients the opportunity to really cut communication costs.

And yet, it seems as though the future of Voip will be defined not by the domestic or even corporate marketplace, but by the mobile world - fueled by the rapid increase of Smartphone technology and handsets - which is set to increase exponentially for the foreseeable future.

Regardless of which sector shows the biggest or quickest profits over the coming years, the industry is only going to continue to grow at an exponential rate for many years to come, offering countless opportunities for all manner of Voice over IP based businesses. So when looking for a service provider, be sure you choose a company with a proven pedigree and track record.
